Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play with the Tournament Poker Club on Jan. 4. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month and start with coffee and treats and registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10. There is no late seating.

At the club’s tournament on Dec. 7, there were about 50 players, which made for a great time for all participants win or lose. High hand winners were Stanley Fong (A-A-A-K-K) and Robert Stefun (A-A-A-K-K). Edwin Lucero won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 9-2.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Kathy Seagroves, first place; Barry Brideau, second; Marvin Rolnick, third; Shelly Yu, fourth; Lonnie Ton, fifth; Lem Hall, sixth. Play continued at the final table until Brideau and Seagroves were heads up. In the final hand of the match, Brideau was holding A-9 and Seagroves had 7-7. When the flop came J, 5, 3 Brideau went all in and Seagroves called. The turn was a seven, giving Seagroves three of a kind. The river was a four, which didn’t help Brideau and gave Seagroves the win.

Seagroves has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the poker club for two years. This was her second final table win at a regular tournament. Seagroves enjoys living in Leisure World and is involved in several card groups and other activities.
