Wa-Rite: You are more than a number on the scale
Wa-Rite is a femaleonly club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by.
On the week of Nov. 1, the members lost 11 pounds for the week, and 32.5 pounds for the month of October. There were five members who attended every week with no gain: Rosie Calhoun, Annette Canale, Judy Chambers, Jan Friedland and Jeanette Williams.
Three members who lost the most weight last month were: Joyce Brannon, 7.5 pounds, Judy Chambers, 6 pounds, and Jeannette Williams, 5.5 pounds. Two members who reached their goals were Velma Sarna and Jeanette Williams. Sarna earned the doctorate degree of goal weight, and Williams met her short-term goal. The highlight of each meeting is sharing laughter and positive vibes. If someone comes in feeling sad, they end up leaving happy or with a smile on their face.
President Judy Chambers, once again, was a loser of the week with 3.5-pound loss. California- born, Chambers grew up in various areas of Southern California. She inherited her love for RVs from her parents, who would take the family on vacations in a RV because that was all they could afford. As an adult, she was able to check it off her bucket list as her love for camping never left her. Owning the RV was a delight that Chambers had dreamed of her whole life. A short-lived marriage and two children later, Chambers turned her love for kids into a life-long career, working as a nanny for the past 22 years. She moved to Leisure World 15 years ago, ten of which she’s been a member of the Wa-Rite. Chambers’ hobbies include oil painting, working on stained glass and being social, which comes to her very naturally.
The weekly food for thought was: “My self-worth is not defined by the numbers on the scale. I am worthy of much, much more than that.”
