Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Meetings for the Atherton Ward are held at 6500 E. Atherton St., in Long Beach. The sacrament service is held every Sunday at 10:30 a.m., followed in the second hour by Sunday School on the first and third Sundays, Relief Society and Elders Quorum on the second and fourth Sundays. Primary classes for children are held every Sunday during the second hour. Members who are unable to attend Sacrament services in person can request a link from Bishop Mike Gravley at 562212-8641.
The reading source for this year is the New Testament. The reading assignment for the week of May 22-28 is Matthew 1, 2425; Mark 12-13 and Luke 21.
The “Come, Follow Me” devotional says that “Jesus’ disciples must have found his prophesy startling: the mighty temple of Jerusalem, the spiritual and cultural center of the Jewish people, would be destroyed. ‘When shall these things be?’ They asked. “The Savior’s answers revealed that the great destruction coming to Jerusalem would be relatively small compared to the signs of his coming in the last days. Things that seem even more stable than the temple in Jerusalem will prove to be temporary: the sun, the moon, the stars, the nations, and the sea.”
For those who are spiritually aware, this can teach people to put their trust in something truly permanent.
