“Kee Tissa” (When you take) from Exodus 30:11-31:17 coincides with Shabbat Parah, one of the four special Shabbats that precede Pesach. The beginning of the Parashah includes the instructions for the Tabernacle, a census of eligible fighting-age men.

The central focus of the Torah portion is the Golden Calf episode when the men insisted on Aaron constructing the idol for them to worship when Moses had not returned from communing with HaShem on Mt. Sinai. The result was that the Tablets on which the Decalogue were inscribed were smashed and Moses had to ascend the mountain again to obtain a second set of tablets and to assuage HaShem’s anger at his people.

All Beit HaLev services use our special prayerbooks, “Lev L’Lev,” which include excerpts from the Reform Siddur, “Mishkan HaT’filah.”

Beit HaLev and Rabbi Galit-Shirah are a part of the Union of Jewish Universalist Clergy and Communities. It is progressive in thought and traditional in liturgy. The services are joyous, meaningful and musical.
