Men’s Golf League
Monday Golf
On Jan. 23, nine golfers attacked the 5,600yard, par 70 Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach. Temps were in the low 40s and the skies were clear, with no wind. The course is in wonderful conditions although quite wet due to early morning watering. Once the greens dried out, putting became easier and the ball rolled more consistently improving overall play.
Bob Munn and Gary Stivers were closest to the pins on the par 3 seventh and 16th holes, respectively. Chris Lankford and Munn had fewest putts for the round. Clay Fischer had the lone birdie.
Winners: A Flight: First place: Fischer, a nice one under 69; second: Stivers, a hard-earned even par 70; third: Lankford; fourth: tie between Glen Barry and Sam Choi.
B Flight: First place: Digna Vesely, good 2 over 72; second: Munn; third: tie between Gene Vesely and Bill McKusky.
Friday Golf
On Jan. 27, nine golfers, including two new members Scott Tuchfarber and Elicc Vaden, confronted the 6,000-yard, par 71 Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana. Temps were in the low 40s and the skies were clear with no wind.
The greens are in very good condition and the tee boxes fair. The fairways are still very bumpy and full of mole hills. The grass was trimmed and only a few wet spots still remain.
Dave LaCascia and Clay Fischer were closest to the pins on the par 3 fourth and 12th holes respectively. Gary Stivers and Bob Munn had fewest putts for the round. Sam Choi had the only birdie.
Winners: A Flight: First place: tie between Stivers and Fischer, a nice one under 70; second: Larry Hillhouse, a hard-earned 2 over 73; third: tie between Choi and LaCascia, a hard-earned 3 over 74.
B Flight: First place: Munn, a terrific 7 under 64; second: Bill McKusky, a well-played even par 71.
The Monday and Friday Golf Leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. The courses the group plays are always quite full, so advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.
There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and Eagles (two under par), although infrequent, are generously rewarded.
If interested, contact, Gary Stivers at 714-3133697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
