Pool Club hosts double elimination tournament Pool Club hosts double elimination tournament

On Jan. 9, 16 players competing in the Pool Club’s B and C Double Elimination 8 Ball Tournament. No “A” rated players were eligible to compete.

Players were randomly paired in the first round and the first set of games required two wins to advance in the winners bracket.

For the eight losers in the first round, their matches against each other were one and done, while those continuing in the winners bracket continued to be two games out of three.

After three rounds, Paul Shellenberger remained the only player in the tournament without a loss.

Paul won over John Burns and Jerry Wrenn defeated Connie Terry, who had come through the losers bracket with three straight wins to take fourth place.

Connie Terry was the highest finishing “C” player in the tournament.

Jerry Wrenn won his match with John Burns. That meant that John Burns finished in third place and Jerry Wrenn had to win two straight games from Paul Shellenberger to take first place, since this was a double elimination tournament and Jerry had lost one game and Paul hadn’t lost any.

The first game was a defensive battle, but Jerry found an open table, ran his last two balls and made an easy shot on the eight ball.

So, it came down to one final game. That game was a difficult table, because many balls were tied up together with no pocket to make them.

Finally, Paul Snellenberger made a nice bank shot in the corner pocket and played good position on the eight ball to win the game and take first place.

The B and C tournament has become an annual event which will be held again next year.
