SUNSHINE CLUB

Col. Richard Lalor will reflect on Veterans Day at the Sunshine Club’s meeting on Friday, Nov. 11 in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 10 a.m.

All residents are welcome to join this meeting. The Sunshine Club requires no membership fees, but donations are welcome. Refreshments will be served at the meeting.

Lalor received his commission in the California State Guard (CSG) in August 1998. He currently serves at the CSG Joint Medical Command, having previously served on state active duty for eight years as public affairs officer at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos and Los Alamitos Army Airfield from March 2014 through July 2022.

Lalor’s other leadership assignments within the California military include: director of recruiting for the California State Guard, commander for the Recruiting Task Force South, deptuty commander for the Installation Support Command, and the first commander in the 224th CSG Support Brigade. He also served as a California National Guard DSCA liaison officer from 2007 through 2013, including Operation Fall Blaze and other emergency management incidents.

Lalor’s military awards and decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Citation (Second Award), Navy Recruiting Gold Wreath Award (19th Award), Navy Recruiting Service Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, California Medal of Merit (Fifth Award), California Commendation Medal (Fifth Award), California Achievement Medal (Third Award), California State Service Medal with Silver Redwood Cluster, California Adjutant General’s Meritorious Unit Citation, California National Guard State Service Ribbon with Silver Diamond, California State Guard General Staff Badge, California State Guard Recruiter Badge, Military Emergency Management Specialist Badge (Basic) and other service awards.

Lalor serves as a member of the board of directors for the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of the United States Army and is a member of the National Guard Association of California.

••• On Friday, Dec. 16, the Sunshine Club will hold its annual holiday party with members. from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Tickets for the holiday party are $15 per person; guest are welcome to join. The club will provide a sumptuous Korean buffet lunch.

The Sunshine Club began on Jan. 12, 2012, with the mission of “Building Bridges for Brighter Leisure World,” and to help all people in the community get along get the most out of living in Leisure World.
