Away from home turf, LW pool team suffers 29-19 defeat

On Oct. 29, 16 pool players from Leisure World met in the parking lot at Clubhouse 2 and carpooled to Laguna Woods for a pool tournament. In September, Laguna Woods traveled to Leisure World for lunch and a 48-game match. This renewed the competition between the two Leisure Worlds that was held in the early 2000s.
Laguna Woods has just renovated its pool room, and the tables play great. Their club president explained the tournament rules, which were different from those played here in Seal Beach. All shots had to be called and touching any ball constituted a foul. The four higher level players on each team played each other in two out of three matches. This was also true of the four ladies eight-ball matches. The mid-level men players played doubles matches and, instead of alternating shots, players continued to shoot until they missed.
I guess that home-field advantage counts for something, because in September, Seal Beach won 27-21, while the match at Laguna Woods went in their favor 29-19. The match was fun, but was also played as serious competition. We hope to have Laguna Woods back as our guests sometime in the future, but no date is set for that next competition.
