Men’s Golf Tournament

On Oct. 26, two groups of three flights of variously skilled golfers play for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus two circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius are rewarded) and two closest to the pin challenges.The Turtle Lake Golf Course is a 1,658-yard, 18 hole, par 54 course that challenges all who play. Word has come down that the correct divot fix material with seed will be available November through April.

A total of 53 golfers teed off and played 18 holes. Without good playing conditions, only 18 of 53 golfers were net at or under par, with just five circle holes, but 53 birdies. Closest to the pin on the eighth hole was Jim Bassett, and on the 17th hole was Don Newhall. The lowest gross score was Fujio Norihiro at a well-played 1 under 53, followed by 4 others at gross 1 over 55. Low net was Fujio at an excellent 7 under 47, with Walt Bier and Ken Notorleva at an outstanding 4 under 50. Five others shot net 52.

Winners: “A” flight (golfers with handicaps of 0-6): First place: Fujio Norihiro, a well-played 7 under 47; second: Don Newhall, a sweet 3 under 51; third: tie between Pat Paternoster and Tom Owens, a hard earned 2 under 52; fourth: tie between Bob Johnston and Andrew Kim, at a nice 1 under 53; fifth: Jae Kim, at even par 54; sixth: fourway tie between Dave LaCascia, Kyoo Choi, Ron Steele, and Bob Barnum, at 1 over 55.

“B” flight (handicaps of 7-10): First place: Walt Bier, a terrific 4 under 50; second: tie between Young Kim and Jun Um, a good 1 under 53; third: tie Rolando Ramirez, at even par 54.

“C” flight (handicaps of 1118):

First place: Ken Notorleva, a super 4 under 50; second: tie between Ryan Hong and Dennis Jensen, an outstanding 3 under 51; third: three-way tie between Richard Yokomi, Sam Williamson, and Brian Tivnan, a very good 2 under 52; fourth: Dennis McMonigle, a nice 1 under 53; fifth: three-way tie between Mike Carlson, Gary Newhall, and Ben Benjamins, at 1 over 55. The next men’s tournament will be on Nov. 9 and then every second and fourth Wednesday of the following months. Those who had planned to play in any tournament and cannot, contact Alan Sewell, 541-3248558, or Dave LaCascia, 801674-5975, as soon as possible. Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the scheduled tee time. The Men’s Club Christmas party will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m. in Clubhouse 2. Look for details on the bulletin boards at the Golf Starter’s Shack. Tickets will be available at all tournaments.
