Hui O Hula

The dancers are practicing “Mele Kalikimaka,” which uses the “Pu’ili” sticks, made of bamboo. These implements are struck in percussive ways during some dances.

Hula classes are held twice weekly, and all are welcome to come. On Tuesdays, practice is held in the dance (“mirror”) room, upstairs in Clubhouse 6, from 12:30-2 p.m. for “walk-in, hula-out.” This class teaches basic steps and movements, danced to music. At 1:30 p.m., the advanced dancers meet to work on upcoming performances. Thursday’s class meets outdoors at Veteran’s Plaza at 1 p.m.

The holiday season is upcoming, and the dancers look forward to sharing their “aloha” with various clubs, hospitals, senior centers, and other sorts of gatherings. To book the group, contact Kaye Huff at 562-431-2242.
